Recently I've been listening to this song when I play TFC.

It has a very strong emotion of hopeless defiance that I really like. If you couldn't tell, it's a song about the final battle the Roman Empire fought in 1453, when the Ottomans besieged Constantinople. From what I can tell, the person the song is directed at is the last Emperor of the Romans, Constantine XI Palaiologos. Or in this song, Konstantinos Dragatsis Palaiologos.

The greco-romans apparently believed that Constantine the Great, the man who built Constantinople from a lowly greek city named Byzantium to the capital of the world, was taken away by angels before his death, these angels froze him in marble beneath Constantinople, to be unleashed in Constantinople's greatest hour of need. After the siege was over and the Roman Empire was vanquished, Constantine XI was immortalized as a heroic, brave emperor who sacrificed himself for his city.

Basically as the Ottomans blasted through the Theodosian walls, the city's defenses collapsed, as the soldiers fleed to the ports to escape the city. Constantine XI rallied as much soldiers as he could for a desperate charge to push the Ottomans out of the city, which was attempted, but failed. Supposedly he said before doing this "The city has fallen, yet I am still alive."

This song takes all of that and throws it together into a hopeful song about how the city was "The Sword" and "The Lance" and the "Key to all of Rome". Immediately following this is "Once more with years and time, once more it shall be yours." and how they will all be together again in the Hagia Sophia (a massive orthodox basilica built by Justinian I, now currently a museum)

imo it's an 8.5/10 song and an epic theme for a desperate defense.

the power behind the song is reduced cuz of the childrens choir singing along. if it was an adult choir to give it the deeper sound, that! , imo would fit better than the higher pitched kids; this song would be a beast. It reminds me of the anime songs i listen to but non Japanese lol

the kid choir reminded me of this. this is Ryan goslings band. Yes, he does it all lol.

I agree. Thankfully, there is an adult version, but to me the instruments don't seem to be as good.

The adult choir is def better. But ur right about the instruments, they sound kinda like theyre holding back so we can hear the choir more. Either way I like this version better. 1st song i listened to this morning, now i wanna conquer life lol
