Where does the lol.wav come from?

I've been wondering for years now, where does the sound originate from? Also, why are the sounds called "sank sounds"?

I have absolutely no idea where the lol sfx comes from but I'm guessing the plugin for the chat sound effects is named sank sounds so that's why it's referred to as such.
