FINALLY got my work rig back up - kinda

Ok. the work rig has been running more  or less for like 6 years non stop, 24/7 but a couple months ago it had a pretty much a total system failure.

HDD died...several times. Replaced it

GPU died...popped in an old one.

PSU...well...it didnt die but at first I thought the psu did die so ya, replaced it.

Mobo? looked it was fried too so...ya guessed it - replaced it.

I was able to save some cash by re-using the old CPU and memory. And the boss offered to pay for the new motherboard (and heatsink/fan).

Now...the problem is...since my old HDD has the old motherboard drivers, she simply will not boot. So, here is where the new HDD comes in. Got windows 7Ultimate installed so now the rig is up and running again.

The problem is...will it let me install the new mobo drivers on the old HDD??? dunno yet as at the moment my power cables are too fricken short to allow me to power two HDD's and reach the optical drive...but now that im thinking about it, the damn drive doesnt need to be actually IN the computer case...hmm...could it be so simple...or wait to go home after work and find another cable???

Anyway. Im having fun. the problems Im having atm, are problems I knew I would have (wrong drivers on the old hdd for example) so not a big deal since its giving me shit to do while at work.

Until i figure this issue out or install another cable, looks like I wont be playing tfc while at work for a little while longer.

Plus at the moment my version of windows isnt, uhm, 'working'. 

too bad that $500 gpu died though.

Ok, got to go, need to power down and yank the optical drive out again. I hope i dont fry anything lol

It should just be a matter of BIOS as far as the new mobo vs the old HD..just remember to enable SATA if it is SATA and so on.

tried to re-install the mobo drivers to the old hdd - didnt let me. so....copy all the old files over to the new drive. in theory that should work.

All the old files? All you need is the tfc folder, ignore the rest of that old junk especially that folder called 'important work documents' it's probably just porn anyways

updating steam now. i basically copied the files from the old drive over, and as far as im aware, steam files too.

no porn on this rig, saved that stuff on new rig lol. after all this computer is at work and never know who will be looking through it.

so far all ive checked is ms office files, photoshop, i can get ps to work - ms office i can at least run it to make new files but excel wont work (low memory it says even tho this rig has 8gigs and it ran fine before).

i realize there will be issues caused by not actually installing shit on the new drive and having the registry keys created an shit like that but its a start. it will give me things to do for a while if tfc doesnt get in the way.

the lap top couldnt stay connected to the wifi to save its life but so for the pc is staying connected so thats not a bad thing. maybe now i can play tfc.

im really impressed that i got the hdd working again (like 3 times actually but whos counting).  pulled that little pc board off, looked like some of the contacts with the firmware chip was dirty.

Aaaaaand shes dead again. Sigh.

Got a real bitch of a virus, somehoe my exploereframe.dll is missing.

So, she boots up, i can input my password...boots into windoes but i get a black screen. Ctrl-alt-del brings up the taskmanager, so i know windoes is running. I can run the cmd and get to the promt. Sfc didnt fix the issue. I dont get the missing file error anymore but still black screen.

Tried to reinstall windows and see if i could choose (repair) but it wasnt an option this time thank you very much billy gates.

Remind me again why i like computers so efn much

course i go to try and find a new one, and all i get is fucking virus's n shit.
