Title: Is there something wrong with the stats server?
Post by: Uncle Fester on February 27, 2018, 04:41:14 AM
Player lists aren't showing up on the server page, and stats data appears to end at 27 Dec 2017.

yep, lost two-thirds of my points (and dropped down in rank) cos i played a lot in January and February. Seems like a very old backup?

Edit: Now a "not so old" backup has been loaded... only missing 1,5 days ^^

I used to say that I go around fixing things, but now im not so sure..

I went through and adjusted some of the stats settings and it seemed to have broken things, up until this morning I did not even have read access to the outdated (broken) database, that was fixed about two hours ago, and about an hour ago I fixed the stats daemons to write to the database, from about 4AMPST on the 26th to about one hour ago is missing

Clan roster is blank too, guess it's another database issue.

This is what I see:

hmm.. made nearly 15-20 caps on a peoplefilled (6vs6) 2fort round and got nearly nothing in points (has the cap value been decreased?)... i know a lot of maps dont count caps, but 2fort definitely does :x

are there still known issues or are you still working working on fixes or changes? :)

we disabled the functions that tracked clan members, this is 'functioning' but the data is out of date

There are always issues; an erroneous config option was recently noticed, flag captures were awarding 10x more points than the second highest action that gives points, this was not noticed at the time of it initally taking place because flag capturing was even less focused on than it is now, however players have been noticing that indeed capturing the flag doe reward you with quite a lot more points than any ADL or deathmatch mechanics by a very health margin. Considering the lack of focus on objectives however, a rebalance of the point awards may be needed to either help drive the focus on objectives or to reward those players who choose to do this already.

More discussion on this topic is definitely needed.

you are right, this should be discussed. But capping flags is a great goal in this game and keeps people playing off vs. def, so capping shouldn't be depreciated so much u don't notice it anymore or have no advantage.

But its true. Even I was focusing maybe too much on getting the flag back home, cos +100 was a great deal to catch up ranks... too great maybe.

But now I have the following problem: Do I play offy and get killed several times which brings me maybe -35 Points for one cap that gives me only +7 points?! If I only watch my ranking score I would say: no - Ill snipe or play Heavy ;).

I have to agree with rayzor.  It needs to reflect the effort of playing against tough defence that bounce-and-airshot you all the time, and 7 points just isn't enough.  OTOH, 100 is probably too generous.  20 or 30 seems a bit more in the ballpark.

Why is 10 (which is the default built into the gsme) unreasonable?

I don't cap flags. I think it should be reduced to 5.

Yes, well, I think every airshot should count for -100 against the responsible soldier.  Killing anyone with pipes or a MIRV, around -50.  And at _least_ -10000 for even thinking about going pyro - unless I'm playing engy of course...

It's about the effort involved.  Killing an offence player is (generally) pretty easy.  Squeezing a cap out of a horde of angry defenders, not so much.

I agree. My reduction statement was meant to be sarcastic.

Stats are kind of a cancer anyways imo
-encourages team stacking
-people leave if they're not doing well enough
-people play for personal points over team points or just having fun

stats are fun tool but are not always indicative of skill, although many who are in the top of the list are pretty skilled, with some tryhards mixed in
