Does anyone know what this is?

Yesterday, was driving around in town here in Alaska and saw this.  Thought I would share to see if anyone knows what the heck is going on lol.

Above the cloud is a bright spot that looks like the sun but it isn't.  it resembled a giant pumpkin with a vertical line of light coming off.

The sun is actually below the clouds at the bottom.  The sun was setting directly above behind Mt. Denali which you can sort of make out in the center (Technically, the mountain is 150 miles away or so but it's so huge it's visible from town).

My only guess is the clouds have so much moisture (ice) that they are creating some kind of visible phenomenon - similar to sun dogs which we see all the time here.

The third photo was taken back in August around sunset as well.
It's also pretty interesting and thought I would show you guys.
